The consultants at Consult-SK GmbH are able to welcome new additions once again this year: Tjorven Borcherding is „the new guy,“ whom we will take a closer look at in this interview.
Tjorven, like other employees, you don't come directly from the software environment. What area did you start your career in, what are you doing with us now and what motivated you to do it?
„After my vocational high school diploma in business and administration, I began an apprenticeship as a wholesale and foreign trade clerk, getting to know the trade of telecommunications products. After successfully completing it, I was employed there full-time for several years in the areas of Purchasing and sales. During this time, I was able to acquire comprehensive knowledge of the purchase-to-pay and order-to-cash processes, which is particularly important now and will make it much easier for me to start my new job.
Even though I enjoyed the work a lot, over time I asked myself whether there wasn't another field of activity that would suit me even better. And if you want to reorient yourself professionally, you should take this step as early as possible to avoid losing valuable time and experience. It was particularly important to me that the new direction was in an industry with a secure future and that I could continue to use my previous professional experience. After a lot of research, I eventually came across SAP consulting, which I researched further and was then certain - that's what I wanted to do 😉.
This finding was a few months ago and now I am part of the team and can support my female and male colleagues in consulting. Over the past few weeks, I have already been included in many appointments with clients and partners, as well as in internal coordination meetings, allowing me to learn a lot about project workflows, client requirements, and general daily work at CSK. At the same time, I am studying Business Information Systems part-time to further expand my theoretical knowledge of the topics I am working on practically here.“
We have two areas of focus that overlap here and there: Consulting and development. After your first experiences with us - do you already know which direction you are more drawn to?
„Initially, I was really open to it because the development is very interesting – especially when you see what is technically possible. But after the initial impressions, I've noticed that consulting appeals to me more. I enjoy working directly with people, understanding processes, and finding it exciting to develop solutions together. That's simply closer to the actual workflows and fits well with my background in purchasing/sales.“
How has your onboarding with us gone so far? Is there anything that was new for you in terms of onboarding?
„The onboarding was really great and flawless. The colleagues were supportive in a very friendly and helpful way, so I found my way around the company very quickly. The regular happy hour and lunch breaks together are also great opportunities to get to know each other better. Organizationally, it was also planned top-notch, so that you were immediately equipped with everything and everything was set up. If necessary, there is also neatly organized documentation on all important topics ready just in case you need to look something up quickly 🤝“
When it comes to company cars, people here love to talk shop about configurations. Suppose you could add a feature to a car that you had thought up yourself, no matter how unrealistic it might be - what would it be?
„Really not an easy question, but my glove compartment is such unused space for me.. A small mini-bar, of course with non-alcoholic drinks, or a built-in air fryer, for the emergency pack of dino nuggets, certainly wouldn't be bad, though.“
